Multi-literacies

We ensure that studentsʼ use of decodable books, audio books, apps and assistive technology goes beyond them simply being technically clever, so that high quality thinking, processes and products are in evidence.

Multi literacies are defined as traditional and modern. Traditional literacies include  Reading, Writing and Oral (listening and speaking), while Modern literacies include Visual and Multimedia.

Summit Point values the importance of Traditional Literacies and the vital role these play in functioning and being competitive in the modern world. In general, dyslexic students can make greater progress through Modern Literacies than they can, in the same timeframe, with the Traditional. Students are able to express their thinking, develop ideas, concepts and concept frameworks more quickly and in greater depth when the barriers of decoding and encoding written language are removed.

Oral literacy is ranked as one of the most important skills employers look for. Students at Summit Point practise their oral skills through sharing and debating ideas, and the accurate recount of new knowledge as part of daily classroom life.
