We're so much more than just a school.
PRODUCTIONS AND DRAMA
'We may be small but we play on a big stage.'
Many dyslexics thrive in the field of dramatic performance, where achievement depends on more than traditional academic skills. Our school productions bring out the best in our students, be they actors, singers, dancers, stage crew or audiovisual technicians! Our executive functioning learning in metacognition and impulse and emotional control helps them reflect and focus in learning their lines, designing sets and working with others.
Our Wizard of Oz show was an incredible event, with professional makeup and hair, stunning costumes, and even a red carpet!

FILM PRODUCTION AND DIRECTING
“We can tell our own stories and the way we tell them is different.”
Student voice is a powerful medium to help others understand their own journey, especially for neurodiverse kids. Many famous dyslexic actors speak of finding their own purpose in film and stage, like Whoopi Goldberg, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
Our students were extremely fortunate to work each week for an entire term with award-winning New Zealand director Chris Graham. Chris has directed several New Zealand films (Sione’s Wedding), is well-known as the master of NZ hiphop music videos, and worked on the recent series, The Panthers.
Using techniques usually only offered in high school, Summit Point students began to develop skills in how to direct and produce short, incredible documentaries, sharing their hopes, dreams, pains and self-awareness. Each documentary was a portrait of their own dynamic profile and learning journey, using storyboarding, camera language, filming, interviewing, effects, symbolism and editing.
We held a film festival at the end of the year. Families dressed up and came, and there were awards, pizza, popcorn and lots of laughter and aroha. See a selection of these on our videos page.
