All the world is an adventure to the enquiring mind.
We provide many opportunities for our students to explore ideas and theories by interacting with the concepts being taught. This could include visits to an app creation studio, ceramics, museums, exhibitions, galleries, local businesses...the world is our school! And at Summit Point, EOTC activities relate to every academic discipline, from maths to history to environmental awareness to public policy, but in interesting, integrated ways, such as:
- counting paces and measuring on maps to teach the metric system through action
- keeping personal records for data collection, logical thinking, and demonstrable self-improvement
- writing about experiences to improve word discipline and grammar
- ‘playing by the rules’ to include ethics training and standards of fairness

CAMP
"When I am at camp, I am totally comfortable because of the fun activities. I'm happy to do hard or exciting things. It’s the best!"
Every year, the whole Summit school gets away from the rat race for our annual camp. It’s a highlight for so many of our students! Getting their bodies and brains working together is the ultimate multisensory experience, where they use all the executive functioning and values we’ve taught them. And they explore things that can’t be tackled inside a building, like stress reduction and a connection with nature. Students explore new skills like:
- abseiling
- high ropes
- horse riding
- kayaking
- archery
- raft building
- surfing
- drama skits

ORIENTEERING
Decision making is everything: Left or right? Up the hill or around it?
Our kids get out and about... and in cool and creative multisensory ways. In orienteering, they learn to use maps to complete navigational challenges in unfamiliar areas, like Western Springs, the Waitakeres, and local beaches. They practise the self-control strategies that we teach them in executive functioning lessons. In teams, they tackle physical and mental challenges in unique adventures on ever-changing playing fields, through:
- building self-esteem and confidence in all aspects of life
- increasing courage to forge ahead by oneself through unknown areas
- being self-reliant
- recognising and using resources
- team work
- map reading
- spatial awareness
PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH
Often, families want to know about sports and PE... and our students certainly don’t miss out.
At Summit Point, we explore a range of sporting pursuits suited to our student cohort’s interests, with activities that build fitness and also strengthen their minds. Rather than big team sports, we design our physical education curriculum with the weather, interests and requests from our kids. These include:
- yoga
- tennis
- swimming
- orienteering
- gymnastics
- personal fitness training
- athletics
- ball sports.
We are a small school, however, we are fortunate to have access to so many fantastic facilities on the North Shore and in Grey Lynn.
