Our School
Celebrating the gift of the human imagination. Offering an education beyond the classroom.
Neurodiverse people are celebrated for their unique strengths and abilities in a wide range of areas.
At Summit Point School, we begin every academic year with a fresh overarching concept or big idea like 'Consciousness Rising' or 'Man vs Machine'. This approach is perfectly designed to nurture our kids’ love of investigation, exploration and creativity. Our innovative curriculum provides a framework where our students explore a variety of subjects each term. This big idea underpins all four terms, weaving its way throughout each curriculum area, making our students’ learning connected and relevant.
This theme-based approach is designed to raise student consciousness through inquiry projects that offer opportunities for entrepreneurship, innovation and teamwork. Our students make independent decisions in their own inquiry, based on the knowledge they acquire, and through rich content, resources and materials to experiment with and investigate individual ideas.
During the term, students research and create a body of work to show what they have learnt in their chosen inquiry topic. The process of preparing this ‘portfolio’ encourages them to use a growing range of tools for gaining and sharing knowledge and experience, and also allows for the production of creative, information-rich and relevant learning material. Students build on these until the end of the term, where parents are invited to experience their child’s journey, through an exhibition-style presentation.
Past projects have included kombucha, preserving foods, therapeutic aromatherapy products, food science (plant-based menus), horticulture and growing food, sewing, woodwork (hard materials) and Market Days (where student products are sold).
Students own their learning in meaningful ways throughout the process, which is even more important than the end product.
Our students understand the impact they can make to society. They develop a sense of awareness of self and their role in a community, starting with their classroom. We leverage their capacity to learn, in order that they see themselves as citizens of Planet Earth, having a responsibility to every other person, regardless of their place of birth, ethnicity, faith or gender.
