Self-esteem is as important to wellbeing as legs are to a table.
Zones of Regulation
Self-regulation is something everyone continually works on, as we all encounter circumstances that test our limits from time to time. If we are able to recognise when we are becoming less regulated, we are able to do something about it to manage our feelings and get ourselves to a healthy place. This comes naturally for some, but, for others, it is a skill that needs to be taught and practised.
At Summit Point, we use the internationally acclaimed Zones of Regulation every day at Morning and Afternoon Circles to explicitly and systematically teach your child how to better self-regulate by categorising their feelings and states of alertness into four coloured zones. This framework provides personalised strategies to teach your child to become more aware of and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses, manage their sensory needs, and improve their ability to problem-solve conflicts.

You are the sky. Everything else is just the weather.
At Summit Point, we teach your child every day that being mindful allows for a clearer understanding of how thoughts and emotions impact on their health and quality of life. And all of our staff have been trained. Mindfulness is characterised by openness, acceptance and an enhanced ability to respond to the present moment. Our mindfulness practices enable your child to recognise and overcome the many ways that they may get caught in rumination, distraction or resistance.
After lunch every day, your child has a block of ‘Quiet Time’, where they relax and focus on their breathing, with the playing of a meditative soundtrack. During this time, numerous positive changes occur within their brain and body, including:
- reduced stress and anxiety
- more efficient brain functioning
- increased creativity
- focus
- alertness
Yoga is also explicitly taught each week as part of the Summit Point PE and Health curriculum, along with gratitude journals, intention setting, and grounding techniques.
