"Mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas." Albert Einstein.
Excelling at Maths draws on different skills and ways of thinking. These include conceptual, logical, and spatial reasoning, but Maths also requires neatness, exactness, and computational skills.
There are many areas in which to shine in Maths, but sadly at times, there are also many areas in which to struggle. These tasks change as your child progresses through school, demanding increased refinement or elaboration of skill sets, or the addition of new ones.
At Summit Point, we treat teaching Maths with the same kind of thoughtful and targeted strategies that we apply to teaching Literacy. In our mixed-ability, collaborative inquiry approach, we make sure to utilise your child’s strengths to mitigate their challenges.
We integrate multi-sensory techniques, such as the evidence-based Concrete to Pictorial to Abstract progression used in globally recognised programs, to help them create meaning and improve their memory.
Your child will engage in mathematical inquiry, reasoning and argumentation, in group-worthy, rich and relevant tasks. They will learn to draw on prior knowledge and use it to break codes, make connections and find patterns.
We teach basic facts knowledge progressively in a way that is relevant and in a ‘real world’ context, with clear strategies they can use to display their understanding comfortably to their peers and their teacher.
